We had an action packed day today. We were up early for a flight around the island of Saipan followed by a circuit around Tinian. So much history to take on board. Saipan was one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific in WW II, and the allies launched the atomic bomb from the Tinian airstrip. Today it’s a peaceful community but the legacy of war is all around. We were greeted by the mayor of Tinian with all his friends and family. We visited the House of Taga with its massive and mysterious stone pillars, now many lost or buried. Lastly we went out in Taga bay to see where the Centurion was anchored. Great history day, and more to come.
