Admiral Anson sailed into Macau on November 11 1742 after crossing the Pacific. He stayed here until he received permission to sail up the Pearl River to Canton to refit and provision the Centurion. Macau looks very different today than 277 years ago. With land reclamation the coastline is totally different but the old town still exists. We visited the hill top forts and administrative buildings that Anson would have visited. It’s a surprisingly pleasant city if you can avoid the casinos and the crowds. Canton is next.
